Opportunities From: Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District

Join the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Bainbridge Island Parks and Trails Foundation, installing hundreds of native plants as we continue the ongoing restoration of the Mountain Bike Park. 

All tools are provided.  Bring a water bottle, long pants, close toed shoes, and jackets for the weather.

Rain or shine.  Windy conditions will cancel this event.  We'll be in touch if that happens.

Work with the Park District's horticulture staff and the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation every second Tuesday this winter caring for an historic fruit orchard, edible perennials and other historic plantings in this former homestead in the heart of downtown.

These work parties are well suited for children six and up who are comfortable using some small hand tools.

Join the Park District's natural resources team every second Saturday at Blakely Harbor Park.  Contribute to the ongoing restoration of this important island habitat, removing invasive species, spreading mulch, and planting native plants.

Join the Park District's Natural Resources team this winter in caring for the woods and meadows of Moritani Preserve by managing invasive species, maintaining garden beds, and planting natives when the weather is right.

Well-suited for children ages eight and up who are comfortable using some small hand tools.

Join BI Metro Parks and our incredible partners, for the annual Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service.  From 10a-1p on Monday, January 19th volunteers come together to make this day of service a “day on not a day off.” 

Conservation projects for all ages are planned, including planting native wildflowers, mulching young plants, and removing invasive species like ivy, spurge laurel, and blackberry.  Parks staff and knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to share knowledge about the park and its restoration and provide all the tools needed for the job.  Join us to work as long as you’re able and enjoy a hot drink to warm up!

Restoration at Blakely Harbor Park has involved thousands of volunteer hours, thousands of native plants, and years of dedicated hard work.  Once the site of the largest mill in the world Blakely Harbor is now a much beloved park, connecting to miles of trails and hosting beach access and a birding blind.  But restoration work is ongoing with young native plants to care for and plenty of invasive weeds yet to remove.

Join the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association, the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, and Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District, for a day of stewardship to remember the 84th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066.

Volunteers will help care for the grounds of this important Bainbridge Island park, including pruning vegetation, removing weeds, spreading mulch, and cleaning outdoor art features.   All tools are provided.

This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for all ages.

Event parking will be restricted due to construction at the upper Memorial site, and alternate parking locations will be announced soon. Volunteers can reach the stewardship event via a temporary entrance at the bus turnaround at Eagle Harbor Drive/Taylor Avenue. 

Open gym volunteer for commodore

Join us for our BIMPRD Winter Basketball League as a coach and have fun teaching essential skills and strategies to players during games. Volunteer today and make a positive impact on young athletes.

Grades 1-4: 7-8-game season; 20-minute halves, running clock; no overtime; equal playing time for all players; Two 1 hour practices a week; basketball to keep .
Grade 5: 8-9-game season; 20-minute halves, running clock; no overtime; equal playing time for all players; Two 1 hour practices a week; basketball to keep.
Grades 6-8: 6-7-game season; 20-minute halves, running clock; 3-minute overtime; Two 1 hour practices a week; no basketball; end of season double elimination tournament. 

Practices: Practices are twice a week for an hour. They can be as early as 4:00p and as late as 8:00p. They can be held at Blakely, Halilts, Ordway, or Sakai. Where and what time your practice is will be determined at our coaches meeting TBD.

League Games: League games are on Saturdays. Games are projected to start January 10 and end roughly March 7. Games can be as early as 8:00am and as late as 7:00p. Games will be held on Bainbridge or in the North Kitsap School District gyms.

Basketball Jerseys: Each new player will purchase a reversible basketball jersey.  Volunteer Coaching: We rely on volunteers to help make this program successful. No experience necessary. We can help you along the way.
